WESTLAKE, Ohio–Yoga’s known for relaxing the mind and spirit.
Now, Urban Active Fitness is asking people to stretch their bodies–and dollars–for the PINK Lit Restorative Yoga Fundraiser.
“So many people are affected by breast cancer,” said Tammy Feaster-Price, group fitness director at Urban Active. “Now, we have a restorative yoga class in honor of breast cancer awareness month.”
Feaster-Price says restorative yoga is a great way to stay fit, especially for cancer survivors. And research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center shows that women who exercise more can decrease their chance of getting the disease by 22 percent.
“We know that strength training, for example, helps to increase your lean muscle mass, which offsets the loss of lean muscle mass when you go through chemotherapy regimens,” Feaster-Price said.
The event will be open at the Crocker Park and Legacy Village locations. It is free and open to the public. Participants will get a votive candle and balloon in honor of people they know who’ve had breast cancer.
Yet, Urban Active is accepting donations to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
For a $25 donation, you will get a T-shirt, Strength for the Fight bracelet and a free 30-day unlimited membership to the fitness center.
“What motivates me is that I’m hoping that people take what they learned on the mat… Off the mat, into the real world, into their life, you know, to make their life better, healthier, stronger,” said Anita Suthar, instructor for the class.
