LORAIN, Ohio-The All-Pro Lake Erie Crushers are gearing up for a grand-slam season, making it one of Fox 8’s latest Summer Staycation go-to destinations.
“We’re working really hard to make sure this is the best year we’re had out here in Avon,” said Michael Keefe, communications director of the team. “Number one, we are affordable. You can come out and have a family of four and have tickets to the game and eat and all do it less than $50.”
The ball club started in 2009, and in that year, it was named Frontier League champs.
In 2011, the Crushers were named the league’s organization of the year.
“It’s a great place to be,” said fan Don Cisar. “I enjoy coming out here, and it’s friendly. You know almost everybody that’s out here. The staff has been great, and they put a nice product down the field for us to watch.”
Certainly, there’s a lot of food and shopping on-site, and while out at the games, Cisar said he loves to indulge in everything local.
“It’s an inexpensive baseball game and it’s a good game at that,” he said. “You’ve got the lake a couple miles off the road, you’ve got Crocker Park just off here to the east a little bit. A lot of good dining all around.”
This summer, the Crushers will feature a number of promotions and giveaways, including Halloween night, Superhero Saturday, Christmas in July, fireworks displays and more.
And Keefe said if that isn’t enough, All Pro Freight Stadium will also have a Kid Zone, where children can play on inflatables and enjoy other bits of family friendly fun.
“We want to make this community – greater Cleveland, Avon, the whole west side over here – proud that we’re here,” he said. “So we’re working really hard. The players are working hard, and we’d like to see as many people as we could possibly get this year.”
