AKRON, Ohio – Goodyear has been an Akron landmark for more than 100 years.
And on Wednesday morning, people can buy a piece of Northeast Ohio history.
Starting at 9 a.m., thousands of items will be auctioned from the former Goodyear International Headquarters.
Exercise equipment, kitchen appliances, furniture, and fork lifts are among the items up for sale. These items will be sold in bulk lots. The company plans to auction more than 2,000 lots of items.
”There are lots of things that are great about this building, a lot of the historical nature of it,” said Keith Price of Goodyear. “Some of the wood paneling and some of the offices and conference rooms that date back to the Frank Seiberling and Paul Litchfield days are amazing to see.”
Arlene Valcan was among the hundreds of people who visited the former headquarters Tuesday. She used to work at Goodyear, and wanted to see it before a new company buys the property.
”These are hollowed grounds for Akron people,” she said. “Goodyear is Akron. Akron is Goodyear. “
One of her must-see spots was the executive offices located on a place many call “Mahogany Row.” She was mesmerized by the hand-carved ceilings and marble tile throughout the CEO’s office.
“’To come in here and see this, you know, it`s just… you feel very privileged,” Valcan said. “It`s a nostalgic trip again to realize that this is going to be gone.”
Again, the auction starts at 9 o’clock Wednesday morning at Goodyear Theater in Goodyear Hall. You can look at the items up for auction online and bid there too.
