CLEVELAND – The rain didn’t stop a mega-hot day on set of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but with the cast and crew comes another thing: the closures.
On Monday, the West Shoreway, along with the intersection of West Third and Lakeside Avenue were shut down for filming. The locations will be closed through Friday.
“I appreciate them coming but like traffic is like killer,” said Jasmine Coles of Cleveland.
The Greater Cleveland Film Commission says drivers should anticipate shifts in road closures, especially when it comes to the weather.
The Ohio Department of Transportation announced Monday afternoon that another closure will affect commutes. This Friday, a one-day closure will close Lorain Road between Story Road and West 179th Street over the Rocky River. That road will be closed from 5 a.m. until 10 p.m.
In a release, ODOT says drivers will be detoured via Wooster Road, Hilliard Road, McKinley Road and Rocky River Drive.
People who come west to reach Fairview Hospital should allow for extra time to follow the detour route. However, emergency vehicles will be permitted to cross the bridge.
“Well, it is bad but it’s not affecting me because I’m staying all the way on the east side,” said Kevin Alexander of Euclid. “And you catch the bus downtown and don’t drive.”
Despite the headache, some locals say the trouble on the road is a price they’re willing to pay.
“Oh yeah, it’s worth it,” said Erin Thompson of Cleveland. “It shows the good in Cleveland and that people want to shoot a movie right now.”
“It’s bringing money into the city,” Alexander added. “It’s worth it. And it’s not a little bit of money, it’s probably millions of dollars, we don’t know, but it’s helping the city, so it’s putting the city on the map.”
