Gas prices spiked in the past two days — about 20 cents in parts of Wichita.
The national average is $3.31 and Wichita’s average is $3.09 for unleaded gasoline. Some stations in Wichita, however, are priced at $3.19 for unleaded fuel as of Tuesday, according to AAA.com
Fuel experts with AAA say that overall, prices have been some of their lowest of the year, but the recent increase is due to holiday travel.
Nearly 30 percent of Americans are expected to travel this holiday season — about 94.5 million travelers — which is an increase for the fifth year in a row.
There is some good news for Kansans. According to AAA, Kansas is the third-cheapest state for purchasing fuel. The company also predicts that 2014 will be 10 cents cheaper overall compared to this year.
However, gas tracking companies like GasBuddy.com, expect 2014 to be a roller coaster ride for prices. The company anticipates that spring will be expensive, with the price of gas spiking to $3.83 nationally.
