Airport travelers may face a few flight delays.

Several airlines have canceled arrivals and departures out of Mid-Continent Airport due to the winter storm.

Airport employees say that one early-morning flight departed to Atlanta, and it had to turn around due to visibility problems.

Some airlines, like Southwest, have grounded most of their flights Tuesday morning. Several things factor into that decision, said Southwest Airlines spokesman Dan Landson.

Landson said that the airline has a group of people who continuously review the weather and determine whether to cancel flights. He said that a flight captain may also make the ultimate decision for remaining flights.

Travelers should expect some delays and cancellations come Tuesday afternoon and evening. People are encouraged to look at Mid-Continent’s website at www.flywichita.com. They should also reach out to their airlines about flight information, as statuses will continue to change throughout the day.
