Flyers across the country are still facing major travel delays during this winter storm.
“Our flight leaves from Manhattan at 6 o’clock this morning, and we thought ‘Oh, we’ll just drive to Manhattan, spend the night, get up in the morning’… as soon as we get to Manhattan, they cancel our flight,” said Carol Hille of Topeka.
Yet, Hill said she found relief here in Wichita.
She, her husband Bill and two friends trucked it down to Mid-Continent Airport, and they weren’t alone. Getting here, though, was a bit of a challenge; it lasted 5 hours — about twice as long as it should have been.
“If it weren’t for some semis we followed, thank heavens, because they kind of lead the way,” Hille said, “We wouldn’t have been safe if it weren’t for them.”
In addition to the longer haul, Hille said she was worried about more flight problems.
“The scariest part was when they delayed the flight from Dallas into here and that’s our plane,” she said. “So we took a deep breath and said “no, it’s just delayed” it still going to get here.”
Sure enough, her flight did make it to Wichita. Now, the four of them will be able to make it to Grenada.
“I’m looking forward to the warm weather,” she laughed.
