Wichita travelers may soon have more food options at Mid Continent Airport.

The City Council will review an agreement for the new terminal Tuesday morning.

An airport spokesman says a driving point with this expansion is to showcase what Wichita has to offer.

Possible vendors like Dunkin Donuts and Chick-fil-A will help satisfy out-of-state travelers, but local restaurants like River City Brewing Company are also under consideration. An aviation-themed café is also planned.

“The Wichita Brewery is probably one of the best restaurants here that people like to go and try out their brewery, so I think that would be good to them,” said Wichita resident Nora Galarza. “With Wichita expanding, that would help bring more people jobs and for tourists to get to know Wichita, get to know around what Wichita is.”

Airport leaders hope the idea sticks, so that the more than 2 million airport visitors can enjoy Wichita and what it has to offer.

“It’ll maybe enhance somebody’s experience as they do fly into Wichita, and they won’t think it’s just “Podunksville,” said Wichita resident Mike Zabel.

“Other airports that I’ve flown out, they’ve always had something unique in there, even though they’re a little pricey sometimes, but yeah, I think that’s a great idea,” he said.

The airport terminal is expected to be complete by next April.
