The return of Melrose promises to be ever-so hot, hot, hot. But can a new casting line-up and an ultra sexy story line redeem the show already in hot water?

The CW Television Network recently announced the renewal of several shows—pretty much all of its prime time lineup, sans Melrose, that is.

OK, admit it: it’s not to be too much of a shocker. For a show with enough sexual undertones to go head-to-head with the Playboy mansion, you’ve got to wonder how it became so tepid on screen. Why were the storylines so boring and drawn out? Were the producers trying to revamp the show that defined 90’s drama? Or were they sticking to a Hollywood formula?

Regardless, producers promise storylines that make sense—hallelujah! Stories that are a shade more upbeat. And dumping lukewarm characters for a hot blonde resident doctor—and a girl that may get in a tussle with Lauren over hunky jailbird David.

But don’t worry; I’m sure they’ll maximize scenes with one scantily-clad PR fashionista and the resident doctor-turned-call girl.

And that just might be what Melrose Place 2.0 needs to land its second season—or at least, that’s what one cast mate says.

In a recent interview with E! Entertainment Television, Thomas Calabro, who plays Dr. Michael Mancini, thinks the show will definitely come back—as it has a strong international backing. (Maybe the sub-par plot lines translate into good acting?)

Coming from the original Melrose, Calabro admits the prime time soap struggled at first, but evolved into a hit for seven seasons. He expects the same this time around.

But with networks dropping even the Academy Award-winning shows, the future for Melrose remains to be as murky as the plot itself. I look forward to the remaining episodes. Maybe redemption is possible. The show has a lot of potential. Let’s hope it pulls the viewers necessary to push it into the fall.
