Fitness machines can seem pretty scary.

Yet, a new piece of equipment is stunning people–by it’s length.

“They do look at a little intimidating,” said Tammy Polenz, owner of Vedas Fitness in Cleveland. “People were just walking in the door, standing in there looking at them.”

With the ability to stretch more than 10 feet long, the device called TRX is now hitting gyms accross the country.

“They were developed by a Navy Seal, and they use parachute straps and created this device so they could get a workout,” Polenz said.

The pulleys were designed as a total-body workout on-the-go. It can be suspended from ceilings, doorways and trees.

“I’ve done free weights before and the machines, but this adds the stability in there,” said first-time user Mike Epp.

Polenz said TRX is also a versatile workout tool–giving people of all fitness backgrounds a chance to perform. I

Recovering from an injury, personal trainer Ray Hodge was left with little options. He turned to the pulley system.

“It actually helped me to bounce back really quick,” Hodge said. “So yeah, I was able to add some resistence to it. I was able to gauge it and actually temper it and have more control than I would have with dumbells, pulley machines and the like… Now I’m way ahead of schedule.”

For those looking to get fit, some say it’s one device you may want to consider.

“It felt awkward at first, but then it’s challenging,” said Shaker Heights Resident Teri Divincenzo. “You can feel yourself getting more coordinated and more relaxed. You see immediate results in your strength. It doesn’t take a long time to get used to.”
