From weights to the treadmill–workouts can definitely be a bore.

Yet, Jermail Porter hopes to change that experience for the less-than-enthusiastic and get them on their feet.

“Ready! Go!” yells Porter, a personal trainer at Anytime Fitness.

His class is at the center of the latest fitness craze: meet Jermail’s Beach Body Bootcamp.

The group meets for an intense 40-minute workout multiple times a week.

“You all come together, you all suffer through it, and he works you out really hard,” said Lakewood resident Mona Skal.

Rotating through a series of exercises, Jermail keeps students motivated.

“You go pretty quickly. It’s pretty intense,” said Cleveland resident Franklin Hernandez. “You can see he’s fit himself, so I figure if anyone could teach me or get me fit, it would be him.”

Jermail is no stranger to the fitness world.

In 2009, he was signed as an offensive lineman for the New England Patriots. Before his time in the NFL, he was an All-American wrestler for Kent State University.

“I’m just here to tone and firm what I have,” said Cleveland resident Laura Angelino. “He gives you kind of a challenge. It’s different.”

According to the American Council of Exercise, through an intense bootcamp exercise, you can burn up to 600 calories per hour–almost one-fourth of the daily recommended calorie intake for adults.

“I feel a lot fitter than I did in January. I do,” Skal said. “I can do a lot more.”

When it comes to getting fit, Porter said you’re not alone.

Together, the experience has helped many reach their fitness goals.

“No one’s behind. Everyone’s coming,” Porter said. “Some are kicking and screaming, but they’re definitely coming. You can tackle the biggest challenges. You’re prepared for anything.”
