NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — The City of North Ridgeville is expecting new arrivals – fire equipment.

On Monday, the City Council approved a plans to purchase a new fire truck and ambulance.

A federal grant will help purchase a new 31-foot engine, equipped with a 750-gallon water tank and 30-gallon foam tank, said fire chief Rich Miller.

The new fire engine will cost about $330,000. About $270 is covered by the grant, and the remaining $68,000 is paid by property taxes.

Bringing in the new equipment will allow the department to retire vehicles — some Miller said that are well past their tenure.

One reserve fire truck is 30 years old.

“Well, we keep them in front line for probably 15 years, then we put it in reserves,” Miller said. “It’ll be around here, maybe not as a frontline truck, but it’ll be here for 20 years.”

The fire department expects to get both vehicles this fall.
