You can do just about anything online, but a local man’s Tweets land him in jail.
Aaron Varuolo, 28, was charged with Internet harassment in Rocky River Municipal Court today.
He threatened North Olmsted police officers numerous times on Twitter.
“I will f—ing kill the whole North Olmsted police unit,” he Tweeted. “You better evacuate the whole North Olmsted police station.”
Det. Bud Branscum said they have had problems with Varuolo in the past, and take any threat seriously.
“This individual indicated that he was going to come here and that all members of our staff–including the female members–should be scared,” Branscum said.
Branscum said new technology continues to challenge police work.
“Every day something new is coming up with Twitter and the iPhone, people are able to do things at a moments notice,” he said. “We’ve had officers at a traffic stop and people Tweeting as they’re writing the citation.”
Bond is not set for Varuolo.
Rocky River Municipal Court Judge Donna Congeni Fitzsimmons said he will remain in custody, pending a mental health examination.
