Cuyahoga County is tackling sex crimes with the help of former basketball star Shaquille O’Neal.
The Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force launched project “Shaq Shield” today.
The project includes a free iPhone app featuring the former Cleveland Cavalier.
Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason said the app offers parents quick and easy Internet safety tips and lingo. It also enables them to search sex offenders who live nearby.
“So if you’re at the park, a little park in Cleveland, you can just type in the address and it will pull all the known sexual offenders that live within a two-mile are,” Mason said. “So it’s additional help for the parents to protect them.”
Mason said the application will eventually be available for other mobile devices.
To download the application, go to the app store on your iPhone and search for “Ohio ICAC Sex Offender Locator.”
