Classes are out, but Ohio schools are making top grade.

Newsweek Magazine named 19 Ohio schools among the best high schools in the country.

In the top 500, six Northeast Ohio schools made the cut, including:

Chagrin Falls: 92

Solon High School: 113
Olmsted Falls: 363

Avon Lake: 418

Mayfield: 455

“Our secret to being so highly regarded? We have good kids and we have high standards and high expectations from our parents and pretty demanding teachers,” said Bill Koons, Chagrin Falls High Schol Principal.

Koons said the school district stresses educational values at an early age, helping students reach their potential in the classroom.

Rankings are based on graduation rate, standardized test scores, and advanced placement-courses.

“My teachers are great,” said Solon High School senior Jeremy Seaman. “I love it here. I’m surrounded by everyone on the team. Everyone is nice and so close. It’s like a big family.”

Fellow Solon high school senior Jaime Gluesing said the advanced courses have helped prepare her for college — and life.

“It’s a ton of work. You need to make sure you read on your own, cause he’s not going to spoonfeed you all the information,” she said. “Solon prepares you with what you’ll be faced with in the future.”
