A police bust puts one Fourth of July celebration in the dark.
Parma Police arrest a man and seized 147 cases of illegal fireworks from a home on Gettysburg Drive.
“The whole garage was completly full with just boxes of fireworks,” said neighbor Kevin Bednar. “I saw like cannisters, the mortars, pretty much anything you could possibly find.”
The City of Parma has a zero tolerance policy for fireworks.
Police chief Robert Miller said law enforcement is spending more time cracking down on illegal activity this year.
“Today’s tip was just a demonstration of how bold and brazen of people are getting to do this type of activity in the city,” Miller said.
Miller said the person in question bought the fireworks years ago in the Youngstown area. The items are valued at nearly $5,000. The fireworks were used at unauthorized events in the Cleveland area.
When it comes to celebrating the holiday, Miller said safety is a top priority.
“I’m sure a fire at this location with that amount of fireworks in there would be catastrophic for several houses in the area,” he said.
