Classes may be out, but Alliance City School kids are showing off their school pride.

Students are painting local fire hydrants for the district’s latest campaign, Aviator Pride.

The volunteers are painting hydrants white and their school colors — red and Columbia blue.

“I like painting it,” said 10-year-old Chancelor Roosa. “I like it being different from just a plain old fire hydrant and being Aviator colors.”

The project is part of the district’s Family and Civic Engagement Team program, said Elayne Dunlap, district intervention coordinator.

“Our mission is that we know that the future starts here, and we want to spread that out throughout the community,” Dunlap said. “Aviator pride encompasses everything: the city, the sports, the academics, the clubs that youth are involved in.”

Students have painted fire hydrants at six schools.

Soon, they will expand to city properties.
