CLEVELAND–Forget the cake and ice cream.
Marlene Yasco, of Westlake, wanted an adventure for her 65th birthday.
So she, her sister-in-law and a friend decided to partake in the latest touring trend: Segway tours.
“It was great. It was so much fun,” said Yasco. “It’s lot easier to manuver than you think it is. It was good to see Cleveland from a different view.”
This was the ladies first time riding the two-wheel rides, which move based on far you lean forward and backward.
“At first getting on, you were a little wobbly, you realize that leaning forward, it was going to be OK,” said friend Paula Hathaway of Coshocton.
Hathaway went to school at Notre Dame College, but it’s been she’s never explored the city.
“It’s nice to see Cleveland from this view,” she said. “The movies are filming here and the history. It’s a very hip, up-and-coming place.”
Segway Tours of Cleveland was established in 2007. It costs $55 per person and lasts about an hour.
“We go down to West 3rd, down the Waterfront, down by Browns stadium,” said Karl Johnson who runs the tour.
Johnson admits there are a few unexpected perks that come with his ride.
“But the thing I like best about riding a segway. and it happens every day,” he said. “When I’m riding my segway in Cleveland, pretty ladies smile at me, and I’m not that cute. Segways are great.”
Taking life by the handlebars–it’s one celebration these ladies will never forget.
“I wanted to do something new,” Yacso said. “This is a momentous birthday, and I needed to do something to make me feel young and this certainly did.
