CLEVELAND–Jaw-dropping explosions to a city transformed–movie fans can’t get enough of The Avengers.
“I’ve never seen anything like it before. I’m excited,” said said Karl Mills, a Lorain resident who is in town for business. “Some people are waiting like me, and some people getting a few shots walking by.”
The Marvel Studio flick started filming in Northeast Ohio this month, with thousands hoping to catch a glimpse of a star.
“I’ve actually been here for three days,” said Alice Markley, a college student from Columbus. “And today, I’ve watched a stunt man being throw out of a window over there. He was carrying Captain America’s shield.”
East 9th St. is now East 42nd St. in New York City, , but many can’t believe what else is heading downtown.
“They’re shooting a scene from stuttgart, germany over here,” said Zach Peterlin, standing outside of Tower City shopping center. “I’ve seen a picture on the website that they already had it built up, but it’s not quite built up yet.”
With a little movie magic, the crew is transforming Public Square into the German town. Filming at this location begins next week.
“It looks like marble from this side,” said Devonna Martin of Cleveland. “You look on the other side and it’s plywood. We’re actually dying to touch that concrete at the other end and see if its concrete or foam.”
It’s a big change, proving you don’t have to travel far to see the world–or at least Hollywood right here in Cleveland.
“Cleveland? That’s a weird place to do it so I don’t know,” said Madison Lovely of Hilliard. “I’m pretty surprised they would do it in Cleveland, but it’s still a good opportunity.”
