CLEVELAND–Jobs are reeling into town.
Cleveland’s first casino is almost here, and Horseshoe is looking to hire hundreds of workers.
“I can’t believe it’s here already,” said Shalinda Johnson of Shaker Heights. “OK, putting cleveland back on the map. It’s about time we bring stuff here instead of having to take our money out of state.”
Horseshoe is now accepting job applications online. It is hiring 500 poker and table game dealers as well as supervisors. Dealers will earn up to $40 thousand a year–that’s not including tips. Supervisor salaries start at $40,000.
“I think it’s not going to be no minimum wage job,” said Andrew Morgan of Strongsville. “I think it’s something to boost our economy. More money. It’s something good.”
Within hours of accepting applications, more than 700 people applied, said Marcus Glover, general manager of Horsehoe Casino.
“The biggest thing is that these positions don’t require experience,” he said. “The behaviors that we are requiring is that you have a positive attitude and that you’re ready to come in and give great service to the customers that will be patronizing the casino.”
Horseshoe is looking for applicants who:
– are at least 21 years old;
– have earned a high school diploma or GED;
– will submit to the company’s drug test and background check; and,
– are willing to attend several weeks of training on their own time prior to the casino opening.
Above all, Glover said the job can be quite fun, but takes serious commitment.
“People need to be prepared to work weekends, Friday nights, Saturday nights, all holidays and just be prepared to have their best attitude and give a great experience,” he said.
Applicants have until Sept. 30 to apply. Priority is not given to early entries.
