Junction City — Angela Martin is unloading her drawers and packing up.

Martin found these signs at the entrance of her trailer park. The city might rezone the area, and she might lose her home.

“They don’t want us here, and I don’t understand,” said Martin, trailer park resident of Four Seasons Estates. “We’re not bad people but we cannot always afford what everyone else does and it’s heartbreaking. I mean I don’t know how many times I sat here and cried, trying to figure out what I’m going to do, where I’m going to live.”


Marie Graham is manager of Cottonwood Estates, one of two trailer parks affected. She says more than 300 trailer park residents could be displaced, pending a city commission vote.

“I’ve been told that by city members, um, they’re eyesores,” Graham said. “But we’re not trailer trash. And we keep up to code. We do what the city expects of us.”

A Texas developer wants to build town homes on this property. Development manager Ryan Griffis made the zoning request.

“From what I understand, there’s a surplus of family housing,” Griffis said. “If the rezoning proposal goes through, we plan to build single-person apartments to rent by the bed.”

Though some trailer park residents remain hopeful, many are preparing to move into area homes. But with some homes costing up to $140,000 each, it’s too expensive for some. They’re left empty-handed and completely frustrated.

“It’s kind of frustrating,” Martin said. “I own my trailer. It’s paid. All kinds of people in this court that don’t have a high enough income to support rent around here.”

Martin plans to pack up with her husband, four kids and pets. It can cost up to $6,000 to move.

But with the city phasing out area trailer parks over the years, she just wants a place to call home.
