The City of Bay Village is on the lookout after a teenager told police she was followed by a stranger.
“A girl had left the high school and she suspected she was being followed by a male in a vehicle,” said Lt. Calvin Holliday of Bay Village Police. “We have believe he had been following females in the city. Following females that were walking or jogging in the various neighborhoods.”
On Dec. 8, the teen contact police and told them a man followed her a mile-and-a-half from Bay Village High School to Roberta Dr. and Walmar Dr.
Police say the suspect is a white man in his 30’s. He’s believed to be driving a gold or tan 2006 Nissan Altima.
According to police reports, a similar incident was reported on Nov. 27. A man—potentially the same one—was also following a teenager home.
“Description of the vehicle was somewhat similar,” Holliday said. “And another young person thought a vehicle was following them, but it was in a different area. The area was Lincoln and Dwight.”
Holliday said it’s important for the community to keep an eye out for suspicious activity.
“Really? That’s scary,” said Mary Jo Mazzolini, who lives in one of the neighborhoods. “I’m glad I have a dog. Of course, they’re after young teenagers, but that’s sad. They should walk in groups, too, it’s safer.
Area parents tell Fox 8 that the school district has informed them of the incident via e-mail. But many residents say they’re not concerned. They’ve always considered their small community to be safe.
“You know. We’re not immune just cause it’s a suburb,” Mazzolini said. “ I think everybody would be concerned. I mean, it’s a surprise but at the same time, things happen everywhere.”
The case remains under investigation. Bay Village Police asks that anyone who’s encountered a similar event to contact Det. Kevin Krolkosky at 440-899-3485
