Emotions ran high as Stephon Davis, 31, was sentenced to life in prison for killing a woman, then dumping her body on I-90 two years ago. He will be eligible for parole after serving 40 years.

Davis, of Cleveland, received the sentence from Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Joseph Russo for his role in the murder of Angel Bradley-Crockett.

“I called her ‘Sugarbone’ because she was sweet and hard as a bone,” said Charlie Williams, the victim’s father. “That’s why you had trouble fighting her. Two hundred-something pounds. I doubt my daughter weighed 125 pounds, but she gave you all you wanted. You’re the scum of the Earth. I feel it’s just like a maggot. You seek garbage.”

Earlier this week, Davis pled guilty to killing Bradley-Crocket, a 28-year-old mother of three.

County prosecutors said Davis and another woman, Latesha Santos, 34, got into a car accident with the victim. They then lured her into a van in a secluded area, where she was beaten and strangled.

“But it’s no understanding why he had to do her like that, him and that girl,” said Juanita Davis, cousin of the victim. “He did not have to do what he did. Like I said, he robbed her for what reason? Oh my God, then just to murder her like that, then the police roll past her like she was a deer.”

Davis and others wore T-shirts with Bradley-Crockett’s picture.

Family members told the court that Davis should be executed for the crime. Moments were so tense, nine officers guarded him throughout the sentencing.

“She was willing to fight to the end for her death, but you, you sit here, not willing to fight to the death, proving, surely that you’re a coward,” said Johnny Crockett, the victim’s husband.

Santos plead guilty in February of 2011 to several counts related to the crime including involuntary manslaughter. She is expected to get 10 years in prison and will be sentenced at a later date.
