The Greater Cleveland Aquarium celebrates its latest arrival—hundreds of fish.

Today, staff unloaded more than 900 saltwater fish from Key West, Fla.

“We have sting rays, touch tank fish, sea stars, sea urchins, crabs, puffer fish and bat fish,” said aquarium curator Stephanie White. “And there’s a variety of sizes, species, and I think it’s definitely going to attract people to come back and look at our new fish.”

This shipment is the sixth—and last of the largest—for the aquarium, said curator Stephanie White. Now, the facility is at capacity with 5,000 fresh and saltwater fish.

“A few fish will go straight on exhibit today, and then the other fish will be in quarantine for two to three weeks. And that is just the stress of the transport. We just want to be sure the fish are healthy before we put them on exhibit.”

The Great Cleveland Aquarium opened its doors on Jan. 21. Since then, more than 64,000 people have visited its facility at 2000 Sycamore Street in Cleveland.
