GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ohio – Some call it the crown jewel of Lake Erie.
But now, Geneva-on-the-Lake is being dubbed one of the top small towns in the country.
USA Today and Rand McNally have named the township as one of the “most fun” small towns in America.
“I think it’s rightly named,” said Al Schwerko of Twinsburg. “It’s a rather extensive main street, the main drag if you will. It has many little eateries. A lot of fun things to do: bumper boats, there’s merry-go-rounds, miniature golf, of course. I’m sure you can find something to keep you busy all day long if you wanted to.”
Five other towns are also competing for the title in the “Best of the Road” contest. Other “most fun” small towns include Corning, N.Y., Santa Claus, Ind., Delray Beach, Fla., Denton, Texas, and Buena Park, Cali.
“It’s a great little town. Not surprised, as it’s a place I like to go to and I’m pretty snobbish about where I like to go,” said Stacy Marinelli of Willoughby. ”There’s the gaming, there’s the water. It’s kept cleaning. It’s entertaining. From the Firehouse, where you can have a glass of nice wine to Eddie’s, where you have the lemonade to the waterslide and the Ferris wheel.”
USA Today and Rand McNally are sending a team of judges to each city. A winner will be announced on July 15.
