CLEVELAND – The shootings at an Aurora, Colo., movie theater took the lives of 12 people on Friday.
The events affective lives across the country, said Bishop Prince J. Moultry, pastor of the In Touch for Christ Christian Center in Cleveland.
“As a spiritual leader here at this church, many people are asking why? Why did this happen to innocent people. Why does evil continue in the world?” he asked.
“See, the people need strength in Colorado,” Moultry continued, “Families of loved ones, extended family and friends. In times like these, we must watch as well as pray.”
On Sunday, his congregation brought roses and lit 12 candles to pay tribute to the victims.
“We basically lit candles in remembrance of each one of the fallen victims that lost their life to a senseless killing,” said church member Tamika White. “I think that it’s important to let those families know that they’re not mourning alone. That, you know, everybody feels a sense of loss as to what happened in Colorado because it could have been any one of us.”
Moultry said it may be difficult to make sense of all that’s happened. While the church may not have all the answers, it can offer one thing: support.
“People are asking ‘Why?’ But at the same time, people need strength and hope in midst of a storm. Even in the midst of it, there’s hope,” Moultry said.
