We’re just days away from the end of 2012, and I admit this year has been pretty fantastic.
Here are five big events that I’m grateful for…
1) I’m engaged. Kind of a big life event. My fiancé, who is also in the TV business, proposed this April. We’re getting married back in Kansas in April. Though I’m excited to say “I do,” the whole planning bit… eh. At least I have older sisters who’ve been more than generous with their time. Bless them!
2) Our sports team won an Emmy, and I’ve snagged yet another nomination. Being a one-man-band reporter is certainly tough, but to be able to rank among the best in the country AND do work all by myself, well that’s an accomplishment that makes me proud. Next year, I hope to get my first win by myself. I’ve been nominated as a producer and in-depth health news reporter.
3) I’ve become a YouTube Partner. Another dream to knock off the list. I hope to expand my channel in the future with how-to cooking videos.
4) Bowling my first 200 game – and I did it twice! I used to bowl as a kid, but about a year ago, I decided to get back to my roots. With the help of my mom’s old 12-pound ball, I returned to bowling, getting about a 125 average. A couple months ago, I upgraded to a new, fancier ball. I now throw a “hook” or a curve ball, which gives me a bit more control and that extra “wow” factor. Now, my average is almost a 150 in one league and about 140 in another. A vast improvement. This past month, I bowled a 199, 211 and 238. I hope I get a couple more 200’s in next year.
5) Getting into the acting grind. Local filmmakers have shown a lot of enthusiasm for my work, and about a year after starting in the business, I’m landing lead roles. Lady Dragon is my next big project, where I star opposite of Kristina Michelle, a local indie film star. There’s also Red Matter, where I play Rachel, the love interest to the lead in the film. I’ve also earned a couple acting awards, being runner-up for best supporting actress in the 48 Hour Film Festival’s “The Wrong Party” by TurnStyle Films. I also was a fourth place finalist for the female monologue competition at the international film festival, The Indie Gathering. You should also check out my page on the Internet Movie Database.
Certainly, these are just a snippet of what I’m thankful for, but the great thing is that while this year has been fabulous, I cannot wait for what 2013 has in store.
What are you most thankful for this year?
Hi Annette,
It’s nice to see a former K-Stater achieve success. I grew up in the Cleveland area, in Mentor, about 25 miles east of downtown. We arrived in Mentor on Saturday to spend time with my family for Christmas. It looks like we may get snowed in here. We hope to visit the West Side Market and Little Italy before we leave. My wife and I like to show our boys the ethnic character of Cleveland. Two years ago we visited the Christmas Story house and had a blast.
Congratulations on your engagement! Happy Holidays!
Best,
John Fliter
