NORTHFIELD, Ohio – Northeast Ohio gamblers will soon have another home for entertainment.

Northfield Park is moving forward with construction on the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

“Hopefully it’ll be great for the horseman and the racetrack too,” said Robert Mewhinney of Parma. “Hopefully that’ll increase their purses out there.”

The $250 to $300 million project will build a gambling and entertainment complex to the existing race track facility on Northfield Road.

Many expect it’ll be great competition for the Horseshoe Casino in Cleveland.

”It may put the Horseshoe out of business. It’ll be great cause you don’t have to go downtown,” Mewhinney said. “It’s in the suburb. Plenty of parking, it looks like. Northfield park treats its customers great anyhow.”

The site will include 2,500 slot machines, a comedy club, restaurants and a concert hall. The company plan to hire up to 900 workers for casino.

It’s expected to be up-and-running by the end of the year.
