BATH TOWNSHIP, Ohio – A Kent woman survived a crash into a local creek, after her car fell three stories from a bridge.
Bath Township Police Chief Michael McNeely said the victim was on her way to work when she hit a patch of ice Thursday.
Her vehicle hit a guardrail and snowbank, which sent her airborne into the Yellow Creek.
McNeely said the woman was trapped in her car for almost an hour, but she managed to escape and get help.
”It’s surprising that she’s very unharmed,” he said. “Obviously, the weather exposure was the worst of her injuries and we’re glad that the passerby stopped, did the right thing, and rescued her.”
The woman did not suffer any life-threatening injuries, but McNeely said the most challenging part of the crash was removing the vehicle from the creek.
”We were there within minutes and our fire squad was there within minutes, so the rescue of her was pretty quick,” he said. “Taking the car and getting it out of the creek actually took four hours. We had to have Yellow Creek Road closed for four hours. We couldn’t just pull the car up the side because of gas lines in the embankment, so we had to get a crane to actually remove the vehicle.”
