SOLON, Ohio – Police say it’s perhaps the most bizarre theft to hit town as of late.
An air horn was stolen from a train near tracks on Carter Street in Solon.
“We’re lucky if this is the worst that happens in Solon, I guess, but it is a little unusual,” said Solon Police Lt. Bruce Felton.
According to the police report, the incident happened sometime between 1 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday.
A person had climbed on the train and removed the bugle-shaped horn, which was bolted on top. The train was stopped and is owned by Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Company.
The horn is valued at $3,000.
”We’re not really aware of any great value that the horn would be to anybody,” Felton said. “The only thing we can think of is kind of a novelty thing, where they’re going to put it on their car or something. I don’t know. It’s not something you can go and sell somewhere or get cash for, so it’s a little bit unusual.”
Footprints were found near the train, but Felton said the department has no suspects.
Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Company reported a similar theft in Glenwillow in July 2012.
