Out of a job? Me too. Unfortunately, this business will never retain the financial strength it once had—at least not if it’s operated the same way.
ABC News announced plans for another wrenching round of cuts—potentially 400 for the year. Much like other networks, ABC swiftly redesigned its business model, opting smaller staff and multimedia journalists to curb costs. (Hey, it’s great news for one-man-banders like me…for now!)
So many journalists are unemployed.
Stations pass up seasoned journalists for newbies at a fraction of the price. That’s just the reality of it all.
It’s a business for bargains.
And to prepare for this sad, sad reality, I’ve started some part-time work to support myself while I search for my next job. It drains me of free time, but it sure beats not having any financial support.
