CLEVELAND – It was a box-office hit last summer.
Now, multiple Avengers are coming back to the Buckeye State to star in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
“We need superheroes,” said Jennifer Fender of Columbia Station. “There are not a whole lot of heroes running around these days. With all the bad news these days, we could use one.”
Yet, the Hollywood transformation may affect your commute.
Filming will start in May and will last a couple of months.
About 20 different roads will be closed throughout filming. The largest is Cleveland’s West Shoreway. The area from Lake Avenue to East 9th Street will be closed for at least two weeks, according to the City of Cleveland.
“Traffic-wise, it’d be hard for people to get to-and-from work. It’s a main road to downtown,” said Dustin Johnson of Cleveland.
In a press release, the City of Cleveland states that some buses will be re-routed and some parking lots will close.
“With all of the confusion that Cleveland has with roads being shut down and opening and closing, it makes it kind of difficult, but it might be a good thing if someone gives alternate routes while they’re doing that,” Fender added.
The City of Cleveland will keep the community up-to-date on the closures via its Twitter account, www.twitter.com/CityofCleveland.
Closures will be staged throughout the community, but downtown will have a few that span over two weeks, including East 9th Street, Prospect Avenue and Huron Road, similar to filming of The Avengers in 2011.
“Not everything is going to be so impactful to the community, but they’ll know and there will be a lot of downtown and a lot of Cleveland filming,” said Ivan Schwarz, president of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission.
Schwarz says closures will be short and staggered, and he anticipates the inconvenience will be minimal.
As an upside, he said people will have a chance to catch their favorite stars, like Chris Evans, Scarlett Johannson and Samuel L. Jackson.
The film will release in 2014.
