No. 8: Know your skills, even ones you don’t think matter.

I attended this speed-dating-like seminar where I got to talk to a ton of news directors.

I quickly learned other valuable parts of my resume: my copyediting skills, Web design experience, etc.

Their advice quickly made me rethink about what I need to showcase out there for the job hunt this year.

Now I’ve got to revamp that résumé!

No. 7: Think differently.

You might be good at what you do. BUT you can do better.

Are there things you don’t do well?

Things you don’t know at all? Maybe a social-networking platform?

Or maybe you are slow at editing your news packages?

How to Tweet or shoot video from your cell phone?

Reevaluate your skills.

Make a to-do list and learn a new skill each week.

This week, I just learned how to design specific parts of my website.

Next, I’d like to learn how to make catchy banner ads for the site—and maybe make some cash!
