No. 8: Know your skills, even ones you don’t think matter.
I attended this speed-dating-like seminar where I got to talk to a ton of news directors.
I quickly learned other valuable parts of my resume: my copyediting skills, Web design experience, etc.
Their advice quickly made me rethink about what I need to showcase out there for the job hunt this year.
Now I’ve got to revamp that résumé!
You might be good at what you do. BUT you can do better.
Are there things you don’t do well?
Things you don’t know at all? Maybe a social-networking platform?
Or maybe you are slow at editing your news packages?
How to Tweet or shoot video from your cell phone?
Reevaluate your skills.
Make a to-do list and learn a new skill each week.
This week, I just learned how to design specific parts of my website.
Next, I’d like to learn how to make catchy banner ads for the site—and maybe make some cash!
