AKRON, Ohio – Akron Children’s Hospital is celebrating more than 120 years of service with a new facility.
Thursday morning, the hospital broke ground for a new critical care tower.
The building is a part of a $200 million initiative called “Building on the Promise,” which will house a new neonatal intensive care unit, extra operating rooms, another emergency department and other clinic programs.
“It truly is remarkable, what has taken place here in this next step in making the best care and the most innovative and creative people working on how to provide the absolute best care for the most important people in our community: our children, our future,” said mayor Don Plusquellic.
The tower will be located on the west side of the campus, west of Perkins Square Park, near Exchange and Locust streets.
In addition to the tower, the Ronald McDonald house on the Akron campus is being expanded and renovated.
