Americans can enroll for health care with the Affordable Care Act today.
Yet, the new coverage could mean more than just extra insurance options.

Some experts predict that the new act may fuel business for temp agencies.

“I feel and I believe our organization feels that they will utilize some temporary laborers,” said Jason Lewis of Apprentice Personnel. “It’s a good monetary move for them, so it could potentially really help us.”

Under the new act, businesses with more than 50 employees are required to provide health insurance to its staff. Lewis says if companies cut their full-time staff, they can avoid the extra expense.

Apprentice Personnel has helped thousands of personnel find work during its 20 years in Wichita. The company hires people in fields like construction, information technology and office assistants. Recently, the company hired more than 100 people to clean up Creekstone Farms after a fire hit its plant in Ark City.

Lewis expects they will hire hundreds of more part-time workers in the upcoming months.

“Companies are really going to, you know, depending on who they are being advised by, how they’re moving forward,” he said. “We’re kind of a safety net for them currently to let some of the red tape and some of the other things to transition into what will become firm regulations at that point.”
