If you’re looking for a Columbus Day shopping deal, you won’t have to look far.
As of Monday morning, the price of gas has dipped below $3 a gallon in Wichita.
“Thought it was incredible,” said Carol Sorenson of Valley Center. “We haven’t see prices below $3 for so long.”
“I was shocked,” echoed Donna Aldrich of Wichita. “I just got gas Friday and I was down a quarter of a tank and I thought ‘I’m stopping'”
Fuel experts say the low-price trend will likely stick throughout fall.
Typically, the cost of gas will lower with the decrease in demand. Fewer people travel during the fall. Plus, gas stations start using cheaper winter-blended fuels, making it the perfect storm for prices.
“It’s nice,” Sorensen said. “I hope it doesn’t mean the weather is starting to get bad but it’s nice that they’re using winter blend for gas.”
Kansas is the top third state with the largest decline in gas prices this past month. The price of a gallon of unleaded fuel decreased 37 cents in one month. According to AAA, the price is 80 cents less than a year ago.
“Pretty happy,” said Wade Gaylord of Wichita. “Hopefully it holds out through the holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas season. Kind of give everyone a break at the pump.”
