The State of Kansas is moving forward with a plan to help prevent people from falling victim to scams.

Today, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced the launch of a new consumer protection initiative called In Your Corner Kansas.

On InYourCornerKansas.org, Kansans can file a complaint, look up the history of roofing companies or place themselves on the “do not call list.”

The program is a partnership between the state and local law enforcement agencies, hoping to help more victims.

“With it we reduce the number of filings that shouldn’t be in the office in the first place,” Schmidt said. “Help Kansans get more quickly to where they need to be, which then frees up more resources in capacity to accept more complaints from Kansans who aren’t seeking help, perhaps because they don’t know that the assistance is available. ”

Last year, the State of Kansas handled more than 4,000 consumer complaints. It helped recover $49 million that people lost through scams.
