After the recent winter storm, some hospitals have seen a spike in emergency room patients.

Wesley Medical Center has seen more than 80 patients since the beginning of February.

They’ve been so busy that doctors like Dr. Joseph Parra are picking up extra shifts to meet the demand.

“Very busy,” he said. “If you’re not steady on your feet or anything, you slip, fall backwards, hip fractures, you hit your head, there’s potential for damage there.”

Parra said that elderly people and those with osteoporosis are most likely to slip on the ice. He suggests that people don’t be in such a hurry and to stay inside during extreme weather.
