After this weekend’s winter blast, Kansans say they’re anxious for spring.
“Yeah. If I never see another cold day it’ll be too soon,” said Jack Edwards of Wichita. “This is Kansas. You’ve got to expect the best and the worst.”
About three inches of snow fell in the Wichita area, causing concerns for drivers.
“Definitely worried,” said Lindsay Keimig of Garden Plain. Keimig is a college student who had to drive into town early Monday.
“Kellogg was clear. It took more time to clear my car off than to drive here, which is good,” she said.
Keimig was especially worried about the road conditions after weekend accidents.
On Saturday, road conditions started to worsen. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported to more than 200 calls, with at least 8 people dying from accidents – some weather-related.
Monday morning, Sedgwick Co. dispatchers said they didn’t see many serious crashes, but they did have a few reports of slide-offs and minor wrecks.
Residents like Kevin ManGayi credit the city crews for doing a better job of tackling the slick – a huge contrast, he said, to the winter blast in early February.
“Kind of put a damper on things that we need to do,” said Wichita resident Kevin ManGayi, speaking about the snow. “Slide a little. It’s not too bad. They’ve cleared the roads, some of them.”
