PARK CITY, Kan. — From shopping to playing your favorite games — there’s an app for that.
Now, Park City leaders are launching a new mobile app to connect residents with local government.
“It really is to be interactive with our community and serve our citizens, which is what we’re here for,” said Dana Walden, Assistant City Administrator.
Walden said the city will pay $150 a month for a company to create and manage the application. The company has served more than 25 cities with similar services.
The app will be complete by the end of the summer, and will feature contacts for city administrators, maps and directions to parks and businesses, and help people report problems, Walden said.
For example, Walden said one feature would allow people to take pictures of a problem, like potholes. That picture would then be tagged with a GPS location. The city would get that data and be able to address the problem.
“I like how Park City is kind of a small community and everybody kind of joins together to get things done,” said Amanda Wasson, “so I think it’d be really productive for the city, cause we do have a lot of potholes and I think kind of go unnoticed and I know it’s really hard on people’s cars.”
Walden said the app would also help police alert residents of an emergency situation — an extra tool to boost the safety of the community.
“We’ve tried to contact them via telephone and then there’s always the media, but this would be an opportunity for us to be able to push that information out as quickly as possible,” she said.
