EL DORADO, Kan. — The City of El Dorado considers repealing a ban on pit bulls and moving forward with restrictions on dangerous breeds.
Public works director Brad Meyer said the city commission decided to table discussion on the current ban and research other dogs. He said up to 12 dog breeds are being researched, including Doberman Pinscher, chow, German Shepherd, Rottweiler and others.
“I think it’s a good idea,” said Jamie Turner of El Dorado Animal Clinic. “I think that it’s something that El Dorado needs to become more involved with. They need to look at the proponents that make up the dog, rather than looking at the dog as a breed.”
Turner said over the years, she’s seen a number for friendly dogs that some may stereotype as aggressive. She’s seen a number of small dogs also as being a problem.
The city has not set a date on when they’ll return to the possible dog ban.
