ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — Cowley College dropped its men’s and women’s soccer program two weeks ago.
Now, a board of trustee member Jim Ramirez has written his frustrations with athletic program cuts — among other problems.
In an editorial written on the Arkansas City Traveler website on Saturday, Rameriz says he’s upset with the “ongoing escapades” on the college campus.
“It’s time we look at our staff and faculty as key resources and valuable investment opportunities, rather than elements of cost,” he said.
Ramirez wrote that he would like to see changes, including improvements to enrollment and leadership.
“But the fabric we’ve woven is being shredded apart if we as Trustees don’t step up-to-the plate and ask the tough questions. Sadly enough, I am but one voice in the decision making and realize some of our new trustees are still learning the ropes as to how to proceed.”
Ramirez has served on the board since 2011. Three of the seven board members served on the board since last year.
The president’s office declined to comment about the editorial. Several board members declined to comment on the story as well.
