Downtown Wichita may soon be getting a big makeover.

The City Council will consider approving tax money for a redevelopment project in Old Town. Tuesday morning, the council heard a $1.5 million Mosley Avenue plan, which would repave an area between Second and Third Streets and Mosley and Rock Island.

Mark Elder, with the office of economic development, said the concept is to repave streets and eventually add shops to the area with the help of tax dollars through Tax Increment Finance. The streets would be made of brick, so that they would look like the surrounding Old Town district.

The council agreed to set a public hearing on the issue for Jan. 6, 2015.
