A Kansas woman is making it her mission to find the owner of two lost dogs.
Two Belgian Malinois were found northwest of Maple and Tyler around Oct. 21. The dogs were taken to the Kansas Humane Society.
However, the dogs didn’t handle the change very well, said Amy Heggestad.
“When they’re turned into the shelter, they’re put in separate kennels. They were side-by-side but they couldn’t see each other,” she said. “They were both shutting down. They were scared. They were petrified. They were curled in a corner.”
One of the dogs, named Katniss, was doing so poorly, the humane society planned to put her to sleep. Heggestad and her non-profit rescue, Beauties and Beasts, saved Katniss and her 5-year-old companion, Allie.
“It was amazing. It was incredible. I could not wait to see it,” Heggestad said of the dog’s reunion.
Late last week, Heggestad and her team brought the dogs together. Quickly, they were playing and running around.
Yet, Heggestad believes there is more to their story. Someone had taken care of the dogs, she said.
“The girls have microchips located in Arizona, and most of the numbers don’t work,” she said. “We feel there is a possibility that somebody has moved here, didn’t update the phone numbers.”
Heggestad also believes the dogs may have recently been moved from Arizona. Anyone with information should contact Beauties and Beasts Rescue through the link on the right-hand side of this page.
