There may be no better time of year than the tradition of Halloween, but one Kanas boy, Leo, is changing his plans by giving back to others.
“What do you want to do for Halloween,” his mom, Maggie Milam asked.
“Get candy. Get candy to the soldiers,” Leo replied.
Leo, of Fort Riley, plans to go trick-or-treating and donate his treats to the troops. He was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes this past year. He cannot have too many sweets.
“Soldiers eat candy,” the three-year-old said. “Soldiers like peppermints. I don’t. They hurt my tongue.”
Peppermints and other treats will eventually be mailed to those deployed overseas. Leo and his family have started a Facebook campaign called Give Me Some Sugar to help spread the news of their effort.
His mom said the care packages have a special meaning to them, as Leo’s dad is in the military.
“It would mean something to me for someone to reach out to him and be like, ‘Hey, we know you’re there. We care that you’re there, and we haven’t forgotten you,” she said.
