Nearly five months after a crash killed four people, the only survivor is still recovering from her injuries.
Janell Henderson suffered critical injuries in a wreck at Oliver and Kellogg on St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Jessica Metzger, Sara Smith, Victoria Dougherty, and designated driver Andrew Montgomery were killed. Police believe Montgomery suffered a medical condition that led to the crash.
“Unfortunately a lot of friends and family lost a lot of people that day,” said Leah Powers. “Janell survived and has a really long road ahead of her.”
This week, friends, including Powers, have come together spearheading a fundraiser to help Janell, as she continues to recover.
“She was broken all over the place,” Powers said. ” Both of her legs, her arm, she had traumatic brain injury and some skull fractures brain bleeds, broken nose, At one point after the accident, they weren’t sure she would make it at all.”
Powers said she has faith that will change. She’s inviting people to come to a fundraiser on Thursday from 4 to 10 p.m. at Logan’s Roadhouse at Towne East Square. The company will donate 20 percent of the proceeds to Janell’s medical needs. There willl also be a raffle, t-shirts and other items sold to help support the Wichita native.
“It would mean everything to Janell,” Powers said. “Janell always says ‘please tell everybody I said thank you, tell everybody I said thank you for being there and for everything that they do and donate, coming to see her. You know, anything that we can get to help donate to help her get better, she will be able to do that herself because it means the world to her too.”
