Some travel experts predict it’ll be a busy weekend on the road, as many try to squeeze out their final vacation of the summer.
According to AAA, it expects a 1.5 percent increase of travelers for this region of the country, including states like Kansas, Nebraska and The Dakotas. About 13 percent of people will travel, which equates to 2.7 million people.
“We have a lot of travelers coming in for destinations to Colorado and a lot of people going to the lakes in Missouri, a lot of vacation time for the family, trying to get in that last-minute lake, sunshine, rays,” said Billy Nester, the district supervisor for Wichita East District AAA.
Nester said the vacation buzz may also have a number of contributing factors, like gas prices. It’s 14 cents lower than prices last year — the lowest for this time of year since 2010.
