All Ashley Hinojosa wanted to do this summer was spend more time with her kids.

So she started a special project with her three-year-old daughter, Addy. They create elaborate chalk-art with Addy featured in the middle.

“She loves being at the center of the chalk, and she loves taking pictures,” she said. “So I thought it’d be neat to have her acting like it’s kind of 3D art and being in the center and having people smile in the end.”

Ashley started looking for ideas on Pintrest, but eventually created some of her own.

This summer, they’ve created about 20 drawings together. A butterfly, superhero, beach scene and Statue of Liberty are among the favorites.

Her Facebook friends are inspired by the creativity.

“That they loved it and that it made them smile and they wanted to see more,” Ashley said. “I got people on rainy days they’re wanting me to draw chalk.”

On cool mornings, the two will grab their bucket of chalk and start going at it. This past week, they invited KAKE’s Annette Lawless to see their latest creation: an idea they’ve been waiting to finish all summer.

“Addison likes swimming, so I’ve been wanting to do this one, but I haven’t thought of how I wanted to do it,” she said. “So we did under the sea and she’s swimming and snorkeling, and she loves fish. That was her second word that she said when she was little.”

“I just want other people to get out there, trying to get people out there,” she said. “I know everybody’s busy, but sometimes when you have kids and be creative.”
