SALINA — A woman says a convicted sex offender sexually assaulted her Sunday.
Rasikbhai Mody, 60, was arrested for allegedly groping a woman inside Pump Mart, 1118 N. 9 St. Mody is accused of approaching the woman from behind, grabbing her breasts and soliciting a sexual act, said Salina Police Capt. Mike Sweeney.
This is the second sex crime Mody is accused of this year.
In April, a 17-year-old Salina girl faced a similar encounter.
KAKE’s Annette Lawless spoke exclusively with that girl’s mother about the incident.
“She’s just in tears because she’s reliving that moment,” the mom said. “She’s just scared and just feels disgusted by what has happened. He proceeded to grab her breasts and then grabbed a hold of her and solicited her for oral favors in the back.”
The mother said she was shocked to find that Mody was convicted of crimes before – and that nothing has happened.
According the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Mody was convicted of sexual battery and felony aggravated sexual battery in 2005.
The mom of the Salina teen fears his job may facilitate the crime. Hours after being released from his arrest on Monday, Mody was seen working at his store. The court should prevent him from working there, as he’ll have more access to many people, she said.
“I hope that justice will prevail and that somebody will hold him accountable for his actions,” she said. “I hope they would put him away. I mean obviously he’s a threat to women.”
Mody is expected to return to court for a preliminary hearing in September and then he will face a jury trial in October.
