I can’t tell you how excited I am to be back at anchoring on KAKE News.

We had the debut of Good Morning Kansas Sunday after a four-month hiatus. It’s been a rollercoaster ride of emotions. This morning’s show was near perfect. It was fun to embrace the news with meteorologist Blake Smith, director Caleb and editor/photographer Angie.

In a nutshell, TV stations are constantly changing. Sometimes they shift people and programs around to maximize on what’s best for viewers. That’s business.

I’m grateful that the company decided to restore the popular news program once again. It’s been incredible humbling to be back home and serving this community as a news reporter.

However, this isn’t my first stint in Wichita. I started work at KWCH nearly six years ago. I left a job as a news reporter to be a producer for the CBS affiliate.

At the time, it seemed like a great career jump. After a year, though, I wasn’t happy at Channel 12. I was promised a chance to do work on-air, but that never came into fruition. I had to leave.

Though I do not work for them, I am thankful for that job for two reasons:
1) It was a platform for my biggest career move – Cleveland.
2) MORE IMPORTANTLY — It introduced me to my husband, Tim, who is a chief sports photographer at Channel 12.

When I moved to Ohio, I knew I would eventually make it back home. An opportunity – and honestly some dumb luck down the line – and I landed an anchor-reporter gig at KAKE News.

True, I would be taking a step down to a smaller TV market, but the chance to anchor at home – that’s an opportunity I don’t want to pass up. This was my chance to be close to my husband, my family and back in a TV market where I believe I would make an excellent journalist.

I’m glad to be back. I’m glad the station restored GMK Sunday. I’m glad to see you all.

Please join me on Sunday mornings at 8 a.m. Let’s make GMK Sunday the best program in Wichita!
